A highly disturbing development in the Euthanasia Debate has recently been brought to light in the SBS program ‘Allow me to die’. Under Belgian law, euthanasia is permitted for a person of any age (including children), provided the person is experiencing “incurable unbearable suffering”. The suffering does not have to be physical. In an increasing number of cases, people are seeking and being granted euthanasia for purely psychological reasons–including (in the case of one of the people in the program) grief.
