Should I do a PhD in theology?

Every so often I get asked this, so here’s some questions to help answer it.

  1. Is somebody who is not your mum* encouraging you to do a PhD for the sake of the gospel of Christ? If no, then no. If yes, proceed:
  2. Is that person themselves involved in the ministry of the gospel? If no, then no. If yes, then proceed:
  3. Do you care more about the gospel than doing a PhD? If no, then no. If yes, then proceed.
  4. Maybe it’s worth thinking and praying about.

* Although if your Mum is also praying that you will become a missionary then she could be on to something.
