A Very Special Tent

Ben Pakula, accomplished Christian children's musician, sings about the biblical theology of the tabernacle. Have a listen - God's holiness, atonement, biblical theology, the divinity of Christ, ecclesiology and eschatology is all taught in a catchy song that my kids want to hear again and again! This is the title track of an excellent album aimed at primary school students called "A Very Special Tent", which will be released in April, 2008. As far as I can tell, I am now the only remaining Lionel Windsor in Australia, and I am so proud to own the name of my grandfather. Grandpa wanted his funeral to have words of encouragement, words of life. When he died, he owned and cherished the Bible our family gave him on Fathers’ Day, 1988. It was heavily used, read and annotated. Grandpa himself suggested that Psalm 46 should be used in the service, and it is my privilege to speak to you words of encouragement from this Psalm this morning.

Ben Pakula, an accomplished Christian musician, is about to release an exciting new CD of children's music targeted at upper primary students. I've had a sneak preview at some of the songs - the CD is incredibly fun, original, musically awesome and theologically rich, all at the same time.

Here's a sample of the first song that will appear on the CD. It's an excellent but simple exposition of the doctrine of justification by faith alone from Philippians 3 - but don't let that mouthful put you off. What it really is is a fantastic song that tells us how to live for Jesus. My kids can't help singing along to it!

What does this verse mean when it comes to male-female roles and relationships? Is it a "Magna Carta for humanity" that teaches complete functional equality of every human being in all areas of life? And what have Christians down through the ages taught about this verse?

Karl Barth is a very important and influential theologian who has had a great impact on the way contemporary evangelicals view Scripture. This book Engaging with Barth: Contemporary Evangelical Critiques will be released in January, and looks like it will be a helpful engagement with Barth's own theology. I've heard a lot of people talking about Barth and "Barthianism", but it's good to see a group of evangelicals prepared to engage with the man himself. This book promises to be worth a look when it comes out.
