This is the audio of a talk I gave at Leura Anglican Church on 18 May 2025. It’s the first in a three part series, designed to be accessible to churchgoers and non-church-goers alike.
Access the audio here:
It’s based on my book & audiobook Truth Be Told: Living Truthfully in a Post-Truth World

Bible readings: John 18:28–40; John 20:26–31
Outline:
1. A Post-Truth World
a. Post-Truth Power Brokers
Unfortunately, too much of politics today seems to reject the very concept of objective truth. People just make stuff up. They just make stuff up. … Politicians have always lied, but it used to be if you caught them lying, they’d be like, ‘Oh, man’. Now they just keep on lying.
Barack Obama, 2018
b. Post-Truth Life
c. Post-Truth Anxiety?
2. Jesus in a Post-Truth World
a. Truth and Power: Jesus and Pilate
[Jesus said] “the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” (John 18:37)
b. Truth in Action: Jesus’ Death
[Jesus said:] “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)
c. Truth and Testimony: Jesus and Us
Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others replied, “No, he deceives the people.” John 7:12
3. Believing Jesus in a Post-Truth World
a. Truth and Trust
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
b. Responding to the Truth
Dear God, Thank you that you loved me and gave Jesus to die on the cross and rise from the dead for me, so I won’t perish but have eternal life. I believe in Jesus. Please forgive me and change me to live with Jesus as my ruler. Amen.
